The Reverse Brothers -It Came from The Past EP

Alex Norton

The EP "It Came from The Past" is the debut release of the Reverse Brothers (R.B) an electronic music (EM) group from Greece. Just keep in mind though their music can only be described as "electronic" because they use electronic devices to compose it.  Samplers, synthesizers, tape recorders and industrial percussion instruments offer their sounds to the R. B. music landscapes.
On StageThey are not faithful followers to the sampled post rock style of Beck or the dance culture oriented style of DJ Shadow. Instead the R.B use their influences that vary from pioneers of EM (Cabaret Voltaire) to industrial (Neubauten), the charismatic Residents or even the modern dance scene, to sculpt a unique "amalgam" (their expression) of sounds.
Borrowing sounds and styles from many cultures, combining them with brilliant ideas and their tendency for experimentation, they are moving this music genre one step forward. Their ingenious and brilliant use of samples, the polyrhythmic (sometimes dancey) rhythm section, the space age vocals and the experimental use of their instruments morph a unique sound - real candy for your ears. Their music will transform you and transport you to virtual worlds right from the start, and up to the final note of each and every song. Sometimes dreamy, sometimes an industrial nightmare, this is the world of the future, the world of the Reverse Brothers.
The mini CD opens with "It came from The Past" a monotonous rhythmic adoption of ancient African rhythms pasted over to our time, moves on with "Our neighbours", a song with "Big Beats" combined with vocal samples from B-movies.
CD CoverIn "Three Times" the listener enters a medieval like - new wave song, with "Chrysanthemum" showing off a strong rhythmic but not really danceable futuristic point of view. The CD ends with "Silence (part 3)" that travels in vast industrial soundscapes and creates an out of this world  "melody" with the use of a Theremin (that 1930s instrument that can be played without ever touching it).
The Reverse Brothers draw a new line in the sand. Creating a new mix of music genres they deserve our recognition as truly ingenious musicians and we expect them to grow be a major part of today’s electronic music scene in the near future.
Combine all these with a unique multimedia live show and you know why your hear so much noise about the Reverse Brothers these days.
