Gabriel of Sedona - Holy City

Limeygit

It is not my job to judge, well outside of music anyway. That said I don't think I can just review this as a music CD, I wish I could because to my total surprise I actually found it enjoyable in places. This though is not the product of a band, but instead by members of an unusual religious, well they disown the word but still, cult. So let me give you some quotes culled from the lyrics, CD cover, press release and website.
The Chosen One"beings of higher intelligence of semimaterial and spiritual composite who have been sent by the Universe Father and who speak through the only authorized human communicator, Gabriel of Sedona."
"The first vocal and musical cosmic sound of the emerging 4th dimension."
"Those with spiritual eyes to see will not only know who I am, but will come to the aid of their local Universe Father, Christ Michael, in the highest way many in the Urantia movement do not believe I am who I am and that this work is what it is."
"The reality of it is, the crop circles are the beginning message of our unseen friends, our brothers and sisters, pointing to the reality of the Mandate of the Bright and Morning Star."
"For instance, there are more than 170 million souls on this planet who are from other universes, meaning the first time their souls came into existence it was on another planet in another universe."
"Some of these starseed are on the Sally Jesse Raphael show, the young teenagers in twelve to fourteen-year-old bodies. She has them on often."
"Gabriel of Sedona is used by various celestial personalities for interplanetary and interdimensional communication."
So if I am understanding this correctly there is a Christ Michael, who is either Jesus Christ or his descendent, I couldn't quite make out which. He and the Universe Father (God) have an exclusive contract to speak only through Gabriel of Sedona, who passes these messages across in the form of a self-released New Age music CD. Also we are not alone in the universe, there are many others, but they are also the creations of the Universe Father, and our souls intermingle. So that in a previous life you may have been a Garraffarg on Centaur 6. They speak to us via crop circles among other things, and those who have ancient universe souls when they become teenagers become upset and rebellious (only so many times you can go through puberty) and appear on Sally Jesse Raphael.
Those who want to explore these concepts further should check the link at the bottom. Anyway I suppose I should make a stab at the music, after all that is what I am supposed to be doing. The CD runs just over an hour and features nine songs. With the exception of the second track it follow a fairly standard music formula. Track two, 'Dialogue of the Cosmic March', instead is a series of questions and answers, such as: -
Q: What's the Planetary Prince?
A: I don't know, but I don't think it's Prince Charles.
Q: What's an Audio Fusion Material Complement?
A: We don't have anything like that in India.
Q: Do you believe in the rapture of the church?
A: Could that be evacuation by spacecraft?
Holy City CoverThat horror aside the rest of the album is perfectly acceptable new age pop, Gabriel has a surprisingly interesting voice, with a wonderful aged mellowness about it. The songs have excellent vocal patterns, although the music is somewhat weaker creatively. All of the usual new age instrument suspects are here, shakers, Tibetan bells, mandolin, tambourine and flute. It flows nicely, and if you can ignore the occasional female screaming as backing vocals it makes interesting background music.
Whether you can take the lyrics seriously depends upon your personal beliefs I suppose. Interestingly though part of the press pack is a gushing letter from the Vice President of NBC Cable Networks, Mark Hotz. Maybe that would explain MSNBC.
