Mission Statement
Limeygit
Anyone who has worked in the nightmare that is corporate America is
aware of the concept of the 'Mission Statement'. This is where evil, soulless,
billion dollar companies mask their one pure and simple aim, to make huge
amounts of money, behind carefully worded rhetoric.
As an example, if only the Nazi propaganda machine had been aware of
the 'Mission Statement' we may have seen something like this.
"In the coming year our aim for the Nazi party is to be number 1. In
Germany, in Europe and of course in customer satisfaction. Through aggressive
acquisitions of new territory we see potential for rapid and permanent
growth. We also have widespread and dynamic plans to restructure Germany
to make it more streamlined for this new age, opportunities will arise
for many within our company, whilst we will look hard at removing some
of the dead wood of previous ages as part of a fundamental reshaping in
preparation of a new world order."
Despite our profound hatred of big businesses here at Indie Monkey
we have decided to borrow their trick. So here, right at the start of our
existence we are going to lay our plans, wishes and dreams on the table,
so that it latter more bitter years we can look back and weep at our naïve
hopes.
"www.indiemonkey.com is intended
to become the single most important place on the web for unsigned, self-released
and minor label artists. Whether by means of reviews, interviews or other
pieces it is our intent, first and foremost to help bring attention to
all those talented artists out there who are ignored on principal by 99.9%
of the music media.
Our only criteria for bands is that they be small, struggling, hungry
and talented. We are open to music of all genres and from all places. Occasionally
an artist who technically is outside of our sphere will be featured, a
band on a minor label owned by a major. In these cases the band will still
be unknown to most music fans and also if they are sending their stuff
to us, they obviously still have an indie heart.
Our aim is to keep this site constantly, and interestingly, updated.
To build a first class content site that keeps people coming back for more.
We also have plans to broaden our horizons and offer music reviews to select
other cultural, content websites, to help spread the word of Indie Monkey
as far and as wide as we can. An important part of this attempt to build
a sense of community among our readers is to offer free stuff just for
reading, and giving us feedback. Every email we receive is considered for
publication, anything that makes us smile, cry or think may end up with
a physical prize. CDs and the like. Of course it will be based on what
we have, and if we can afford postage that week, but the point is, how
many other small start up websites are even willing to consider such a
thing?
If we can get bands interested we also aim to run competitions to win
signed CDs, pictures T-shirts and the like. The format will require the
reader to gain answers both from specific parts of our website and the
bands. In other words we can offer the prospect of free things to help
bands get more attention, publicity and possibly sales.
Most of the reviews here will be positive, although not all. Any band
that submits their music for consideration will be reviewed at some stage.
Often the better the CD, the quicker we will get around to reviewing it,
but we hope to always be honest and objective in our reviews. We want to
create an environment where readers learn to trust our opinions, enough
maybe to take some risks and buy this material, and help small bands succeed.
We also cry out for anyone who wants to be a part of Indie Monkey to
contact us. We need writers, we need musicians, we need managers and publicity
people, we need anyone who cares about new and unknown music to help us
spread the gospel. Click on the contact and feedback buttons above to find
out more. Also send us sites to consider for our links section, and link
to us via text or use images we have for this purpose at /linktous.
So there you go, an attempt to define what we are about, and where we
want to go.
